hasDefinitionA ship identification code that provides a permanent number to a ship for identification purposes. It remains unchanged, and follows the ship "from cradle to grave". It is made of the three letters "IMO" followed by a seven-digit number, and is assigned to a ship by the Lloyd's Register Fairplay when constructed. According to SOLAS regulation XI-1/3, it is required to mark the IMO number at specific locations on both the outer and inner side of the ship's hull.
